WASHINGTON -- Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told the House Republican conference Tuesday that he will enter the race for Speaker of the House if he gathers support from all wings of the party, despite previous insistence that he would not run.
During a meeting Tuesday evening, the House Ways and Means Committee chairman told members that he would run, under the condition that he ensures the support of every House GOP caucus. According to Ways and Means spokesman Brendan Buck, Ryan will make a formal decision by Friday, pending confirmation from House caucuses that they would back him.
