WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama claims an array of successes in 2014, citing lower unemployment, a rising number of Americans covered by health insurance, and an historic diplomatic opening with Cuba. He also touts his own executive action and a Chinese agreement to combat global warming.
At a news conference Friday, Obama declared: "I am energized."
He noted that on Friday the Treasury announced it had sold the last investment related to the Wall Street and auto bailouts. And he said the combat mission in Afghanistan will soon be over.
Obama spoke Friday during his year-end news conference, shortly before leaving the White House for a Hawaii vacation.
The news conference capped an eventful seven weeks since Republicans added to their majority in the House and won control of the Senate.
