War in Ukraine

Russia launched an exceptionally intense air attack on Kyiv, using drones, cruise and probably ballistic missiles, city officials said. "It was exceptional in its density - the maximum number of attack missiles in the shortest period of time," said Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's city military administration.
Ukraine said it had shot down six Russian hypersonic Kinzhal missiles in a single night, thwarting a superweapon Moscow had previously touted as all but unstoppable.
Drawing lessons from the Ukraine crisis, a top Chinese general urged greater integration of novel capabilities, including artificial intelligence, with conventional warfare tactics ahead of any confrontation with the West.

In her own words: A Hiroshima bomb survivor learns English to tell her story

Standing at the front of a dimly lit room in the basement of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, Teruko Yahata's voice broke as she recalled the morning her world changed, on August 6, 1945. "All of a sudden, the entire sky flashed and was illuminated in bluish-white, as if the heavens had become one huge, fluorescent light," the 85-year-old, speaking in English, told an audience of British tourists.

Resolving to learn English in order to tell her story, Yahata began taking classes as she headed into her 80s.

It was love at first sight for Viviane Kouame when, as a teenager growing up in Ivory Coast, she first saw cocoa trees with ripe pods on their trunks that reminded her of babies clinging to their mothers' backs.

She decided cocoa would be a part of her life, and in 2021 she set up her own company, Chocovi, to make and sell chocolate.
