So many Beto texts), we bring you a new interview in our “Now We’re Talking” series—this time with the man who’s overseen his party’s strategy for these very elections: Tom Perez, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee. These are pressing times for Perez: When he’s not being forced to react to Trump’s latest tweet-bomb, he’s having to negotiate the divisions within his own ranks, all while trying to carve out a viable future for his party. As Democrats wait for good returns this Tuesday, will they think he’s done enough? The indefatigable Wil Hylton talked to Perez about whether Trump is a racist, whether the party should support senators who voted for Brett Kavanaugh—and why the DNC decided to allow fossil fuel execs to donate to the party.
