The Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10 to win Super Bowl 50 on Sunday night.
In a game dominated by defensive and offensive struggles, the Broncos outlasted the Panthers by stifling quarterback Cam Newton. Newton, the NFL's MVP, passed for 265 yards but didn't throw a touchdown and turned the ball over three times as he struggled to figure out the league's top defense.
The key play came late in the first quarter, when Denver linebacker Von Miller sacked Newton and forced a fumble that Broncos defensive end Malik Jackson recovered in the end zone for a touchdown to give Denver an early 10-0 lead.
The Panthers defense held Denver without a touchdown and limited the Broncos to just three field goals on offense. Manning managed just 141 passing yards and was sacked five times.
But Carolina never managed to respond on offense. The Panthers turned the ball over three more times after Newton's initial fumble, first when running back Mike Tolbert fumbled on the end of a first down run and later when Newton threw an interception in Denver territory.
Despite their offensive struggles, the Broncos sealed the game late in the fourth quarter when Miller forced another Newton fumble, which Denver recovered deep in Carolina territory. Broncos running back C.J. Anderson then scored a one-yard rushing touchdown to provide the final margin.
