WASHINGTON -- House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced his bid to become the next speaker of the House on Monday. 


The California Republican is running to replace current Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who will resign from the post and his seat in Congress effective Oct. 30.
