- The death toll from earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria neared 16,000, as hopes faded of many people being found alive 72 hours since the disaster. Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan is facing a crescendo of criticism over his response, while Syria's President Bashar al-Assad is pressing for foreign aid to be delivered through his territory as he aims to chip away at his international isolation.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy received a standing ovation from the European Parliament in Brussels, where he called for more weapons to fend off Russia's invasion and a quick start to talks for his country to join the EU. | - President Joe Biden will travel to Florida today to push his argument that only Democrats will protect Social Security and Medicare, and try to boost his chances of winning the battleground state that has moved to Republicans in recent years.

- The chief executive of JPMorgan cautioned against declaring victory over inflation too early, warning the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates above the 5% mark if higher prices ended up "sticky."
