OVER 36,000 VERIZON WIRELESS EMPLOYEES GO ON STRIKE "Tens of thousands of Verizon workers on the East Coast walked off the job on Wednesday after the company and two labor unions failed to reach a new agreement by a 6 a.m. deadline set by the unions, more than eight months after their contracts expired." The strike is one of the largest in several years. Verizon is the parent company of AOL, which owns The Huffington Post. [NYT]

U.S. AIR STRIKES HAVE KILLED 25,000 ISIS FIGHTERS But the State Department stressed that hasn't stopped the spread of extremism, with ISIS militants in Europe, North Africa and Afghanistan. [NYT]
