Reuters visual investigation explains how Moscow is transforming Ukrainian coastal resorts into Russian ones.
|
Denys Katyukha built the Admiral hotel in Kyrylivka. Now he watches Russian-speaking tourists film videos there from Germany, where he fled after Russia's invasion.
A Reuters visual investigation found 521 hotels on Ukraine's Sea of Azov coast listed as "ownerless" by the Russian-installed government. The Admiral and at least 76 others are now under the control of Russian businesses.
We analyzed occupation decrees, company and property records, tourism plans, and hundreds of videos and photos from before and after the occupation. Reuters could not visit the area because of security concerns.
